GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM – well where’s that – Artist Jeff Quigley

“Go back to where you came from well where’s that” .. Latest artwork by Jeff Quigley

I have always had a fascination with space and more recently with the images generated from first the Hubble and then the Webb telescopes. Absolutely mind blowing stuff. Images from millions of years ago. How our universe was created, how we evolved and how we got to be where we are. We have the opportunity to look at things that are more than likely no longer there. And yes, we could not possibly be alone.

“Go Back To Where You Came From – Well Where’s That?” is a large painting, acrylic on canvas, 155cm x 55cm which I intend to have framed in time for the June Exhibition.

THE DISTANT SOUND OF DOGS BARKING – Artist Jeff Quigley

My mate, Patrol Dog Buff is the main character in this piece. She has trained me so well that on most mornings she is allowed to wake me up around 5am so I can have the privilege of taking her for her beach walk and I get the bonus of throwing the ball for her about fifty times.

The title itself originated from the name of an SBS movie which I never forgot. I didn’t watch the movie mind you, but the name has always stuck with me. “A great name for a painting”

“The Distant Sound Of Dogs Barking” is acrylic on canvas, 76cm x 61cm. Painted March 2024.

SOCIETY – Artist Jeff Quigley

SOCIETY .. Latest artwork by Jeff Quigley – Just completed this one. (January 2024)

This piece is the biggest artwork I have undertaken to date. It was a long labour of love to paint this particular theme. I have absolutely no idea how many hours I have spent on this one as I lost count at about sixty hours and that was some time ago.

“Society” is all about my opinion on the wonder technology of mobile phones and where it has taken us or should I say where we have been lead to.

“Society” is acrylic on canvas, and a bloody large painting 122cm x 92cm. It is my latest work and hopefully will be accepted into the next exhibition at the Emu Park Art Gallery which will be opening on the 8th February.

NEVER ENDING STEPS TO THE TOP – Artist Jeff Quigley

This one has gone to a good home…

Never Ending Steps To The Top.. Latest artwork by Jeff Quigley

I decided to have a bit of fun with this one and incorporated the illusory effect of the “Penrose Stairs”. You never reach the top (let your eyes follow the steps).

Those that are unlucky enough to know me will know my feelings about the subject matter involved within this work and the said steps.

17 years is a long time to wait to win something but who is counting. I know I am and enjoying it and hope that it continues. I mean what is one more year?

FOGGY MORNING RUN – Artist Jeff Quigley

FOGGY MORNING RUN.. Latest artwork by Jeff Quigley – Another painting finished

Foggy Morning Run … Firstly, my apologies for the quality of the photo. I had hell to play trying to get a decent shot. Photography and camera work is definitely not my forte.

Re this painting: One of the many voices inside my head was requesting another fog inspired piece. Well, finally, this is it. I lost count of many joyous hours I spent doing this “Foggy”. (50 to 60 hours at least) But I can honestly say that the grass areas on the side of the track were done at least 8 times including 3 complete paint overs. It is a wonder the neighbours did not report the foul language to the local constabulary.

‘It’s Time We Walked’ – Artist Jeff Quigley

This one has gone to a good home…

My inspiration as was for my previous painting ‘YES, and be on the right side of History’ is because of my strong belief that it is 2023 and the time is now to recognize that this continent was not and never was Terra Nullius (vacant land – no one living here) and we should therefore enshrine in our constitution an Indigenous voice to parliament.

At this point in our history it is not dividing us but revealing us, who we are.

It’s Time We Walked, Framed acrylic on canvas, a large painting 70cm x 50cm.

Today (June 17, 2024) I received a lovely letter along with a Certificate of Appreciation from Carol Godwin, CEO-Anglicare CQ. Back in May I offered my artwork ‘It’s Time We Walked’ to AnglicareCQ via Rev. William Oates who happens to be the father of fellow Emu Park Art Gallery Member, the very talented Kate Oates.

‘YES, and be on the right side of History’ – Latest artwork by Jeff Quigley
My inspiration for this one is my strong belief that it is 2023 and the time is now to recognize that this continent was not and never was Terra Nullius and we should enshrine in our constitution an Indigenous voice to parliament.

The painting depicts From Left to right: Vincent Lingiari and The Great Man, Gough Whitlam pouring sand, (From little things big things grow), Kevin Rudd’s Apology to “The stolen Generation”, Anthony Albanese sharing a laugh with Galarrwuy Yunupingu at the Garma Festival, and Land Rights Activist Eddie Koiki Mabo
